Forty Acres, But No Mule

Libbe took Nora and Avigail to Ukiah for Nora's dental check-up and for the cousins to catch a bus back to the bay area and their respective tasks. Nora back to UCSC and Avigail, after a night in Oakland, back home to NYC. This was likely the longest time these two cousins had ever spent together. Loren took Mark and Debbie on a walking tour of the area. From the front porch:

A broken old tree with a hole through it:

Tree, moss and sky:

Rocks softened by moss:

Various mosses and lichens (?):

When Loren with Mark and Debbie swung back around to the meadow to check on the fire, it continued to smolder more than twenty-four hours after the previous check, and densely packed leaves at the bottom had still not burned.

Libbe returned late in the afternoon with fresh groceries and other goodies. We made dinner, shared more stories and watched a Paul Newman/Joanne Woodward movie (Mr. & Mrs. Bridge). We commented about how now, as then, as much as things have changed in the seventy years since the events depicted in the movie, certain lines in the expectations of relationships are not crossed, or subjects broached.
