Various Tasks at Home and in Town

Breakfast

Miriam and Luis work out in a neighborhood gym almost every morning. They usually get out before we get up. However, by the time they return we are usually showered, dressed, and have set the table for breakfast. This day, however, Luis and Miriam returned asking for help bringing food they had purchased from the local market. We both volunteered, though we really did nothing. For us, it was another adventure.

The fruit and vegetables were diverse, many were new to us and some were simply huge.

We decided to take a breakfast group portrait for the day's photo.

Working at home

Most of the day we each spent catching up at our computers.

After a great, light lunch

into town again

Luis drove Miriam, Debbie and Mark into town to purchase our bus tickets for Sunday night's trip to Mexico City. The three of us then walked around town "shopping" but not buying.

Miriam picked up a "challah," actually a "pan de yema" with a little anise flavor, as we had seen packaged the previous day.

Colors

Mark was intrigued by the multiplicity of colors
in the air:

In the distance,

at dusk, you can see the hill beyond Miriam and Luis' house.

And the walls

There's a tremendous amount of large graffiti in town. It seems that crews are out cleaning the walls all the time.

The walls are used for posting notices as well. Some walls have "stenciled graffiti" indicating that you are not to post. These are more often obeyed than not. Other walls get deep layers of postings and paint that make beautiful collages.

Then there are the walls themselves. They are many deep and subtle colors, some contrasting with other walls within a few meters. (The walls in these shots are within a three block radius; the photos were taken in the 38 minutes between 6:13:44 PM and 6:51:01 PM… which included a fifteen minute break to buy a pair of sandals.) Though Mark usually wears a beret, in Oaxaca he borrowed on of Luis' many straw hats.

Home for Shabbat

We got home in time to prepare for Shabbat. Miriam cooked a zuccini kugel

while Debbie and Luis enjoyed using the gizmo we had purchased earlier in the week to observe carrots in a fresh way.
